The cockpit drill should be carried out each time you use your car:

1. My handbrake is on.

2. My gearlever is in neutral.

3. My seat, seatbelt, mirrors and headrest are adjusted to my satisfaction.

4. My door is shut - will you check your doors please?

5. I have pressure on my footbrake.

6. The first turn of the key, I have a bank of warning lights. Ignition, Brake etc.

7. A further turn of the key starts the engine, all warning lights go out with the exception of the handbrake.

8. Engaging 1st gear, looking all round, releasing the handbrake and moving off when it is safe to do so.
